Svend Aage Tauscher (Danish, 1911-1982) grew up in an orphanage and lived as a vagabond artist. The self-taught painter spent his time in a neighborhood known as the Minefield surrounding Nikolaj Square in Copenhagen. His abract scenes captured the moods of the city through the use of color and bold brush strokes. A bronze bust of the artist is located in Nikolaj Square and his paintings belong to the collections of the Museum of Copenhagen and Vejle Museum of Art.
