Ole Hammeleff (Danish, 1913-1989) Ole Hammeleff worked in a variety of media, including oil painting, watercolors, drawing and graphics. In the early 1940s he also took up ceramics, and works in enamel were created from 1964. His paintings and graphics, in the form of landscapes and figure compositions, are naturalistically designed with a rigor in the construction, which can tend to the speculative. His enamel painting, on the other hand, is abstract-decorative with an ornamental character and dominated by clear, fresh colors.
Note on reverse translates to:
Enamel by O. Hammeleff, "Mahogany" Theme from the opera of the same name by Bertol Breckt. The tornado is coming to the city of Mahagoony, a small town in Chicago.
